The power of CCTV integration with Access Control

CCTV or video surveillance is a popular choice for security and makes an effective deterrent – if someone knows they are being monitored they are less likely to commit a crime.

With our access control solution, it’s possible to combine these two disparate systems in order to provide a unified solution. If a door is covered by a CCTV camera, and entry is attempted, an event can be raised which triggers an image capture from the relevant camera at the time of incident. This is then be sent via an email or SMS alert – so even if the camera feed is not being monitored in real-time – a member of security staff can quickly check to verify if the entry is permitted and take action if there looks to be suspicious activity.

Other uses of events can include verification – if a user swipes their card we can display their photo “on file”, and with the use of CCTV we can compare whether the user is the correct cardholder. This can be useful in high security areas, where remote monitoring can take place and manual door release (following successful card swipe) enabled.

With the more widespread use of IP-based CCTV remote monitoring of cameras is a much more realistic proposition. By harnessing events from your access control system and using them to trigger actions the possibility of integrating with CCTV systems is much more realistic.

Bringing CCTV and Access Control together provides a powerful method for enhancing the security of your premises. AIT is a Certified SALTO Partner and provides video surveillance solutions as well. However, if you have an existing CCTV system then it may be possible for us to integrate SALTO’s access control system with this and we’d be happy to investigate and test the possibilities for interfacing with it.
